By Richard Birk
I was honored to be a part of the music track at the Disciple Project at Texas Lutheran University this past June 23 – 27. Our music track included 10 participants and six track leaders and we spent the week exploring a variety of music while expanding our leadership skills as worship musicians. Topics for the week included vocal and percussion techniques, world music, incorporating instruments in worship, making worship music inviting and participatory, and spiritual growth.
I would like to encourage each of you to consider being a part of this great event in the future. I have found my two experiences with the Disciple Projects to be incredibly impactful spiritually and musically. I was thrilled to see track participants blossom and was blessed with the opportunity to forge lasting relationships, while experiencing deep personal growth.
I would sum up my DP experience in two words – life changing!
DP music track leaders were GLOCAL musicians Brittany Betts (Rockport, MA) & Omar Mixco (Mexico City), TLU music major Michele Crowder, TX-LA Gulf Coast Synod musicians Rebecca & Jon McDonald (Covenant Lutheran, Houston), and Richard Birk (St. John, Angleton)
